HYGIENE KITS FOR HAITI    MISSION PROGRAM

NEEDS     KITS   &  -VOLUNTEERS   FOR

A SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIP TO THE

FERNCLIFF DISASTER CENTER IN ARKANSAS

1)  All churches that are interested in providing Hygiene Kits for Haiti are invited to use the contents list provided on this sheet to assemble as many kits as possible as outlined in the instructions.  Pack them in stackable boxes, preferably good conditioned, used banana boxes (which are easy to handle and uniform in size).

2)  Bring your boxes to our Presbytery office at Hopewell no later than 4pm Friday afternoon, Feb 12.   Or if you have Youth coming to the Jr Hi Youth Retreat, they can bring the boxes of kits with them.

3)  Our Presbytery’s Volunteer Mission Team will deliver the kits and serve Feb 16-18, Tuesday-Thursday at the Disaster Assistance Center at the Ferncliff Conference Center near Little Rock, Arkansas.  We will need 8 able bodied men or women volunteers from our Presbytery to join the 4 volunteers who have already signed up from the Ripley Church to make up our 12 member team.   The work area at Ferncliff is limited and according to their experience this number of people will be the most effective for the work that will be done.

4)  The St Andrew Presbytery Mission Team will gather at Hopewell at 8:30am Tuesday morning, Feb 16,  to load the kits in a 16×8x7 enclosed trailer and then caravan as a group to the Ferncliff Center.

5) The Team will arrive at Ferncliff Tuesday afternoon, unload the trailer and begin processing the kits for shipment to Haiti.  This work will continue Wednesday and possibly Thursday morning so that the Team will be able to return home sometime Thursday, Feb 18th.

6a)  Housing option 1 for the Team is the Retreat House which has 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and 25 beds.  The reduced rate for Mission Teams for the Retreat House is $200 a night.  (So if 10 people agree to this accommodation it would be $20 per person per night.)  Each person would need to provide their own linens at the Retreat house or add $6.50 per person linen fee.

6b.) Another option for housing is the motel style rooms which are $54 dollars for singles or $36 per person for 2 people for $72 per room per night. Linens are provided for these rooms.

7)  The conference dining hall will not be open that week, so the teams will need to provide for their own meals.  The Retreat House has a full kitchen and there is a restaurant near the Conference Center.

8)  Anyone who would like to serve on the Presbytery’s Volunteer Mission Team for this short term mission trip will need to register their name, phone, and email address no later than Feb 8th with the Presbytery’s Administrative Assistant, Lora Sarich, email  mail@standrewpresbytery.org  or phone 662-234-6069.

9)  Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Langston from the Ripley Presbyterian Church will be providing the truck and trailer for the Mission Trip and will coordinate a plan for food, housing, and transportation with the other volunteers. Contact will be made via phone or email on Feb 11th.

10)  Rev. Bill Connolly is coordinating this short-term mission program on behalf of our Missions Com. You can contact him for additional details or questions via email at billc@ripleycable.net or by cell phone  662-587-6513.
